Hoe word je schlagerzanger?
We hadden ons in het begin van het nieuwe seizoen van Tomtesterom voorgenomen om bij elke aflevering grenzen te verleggen. Wist ik veel dat de grens om live te moeten zingen voor een publiek een bijna onoverschrijdbare grens voor mij zou worden ... Ik heb een grote bewondering voor zangers. Ik droom er al heel lang van om te kunnen zingen maar ik stond niet op de eerste rij toen de zangstemmen werden uitgedeeld denk ik ... Het optreden in De Toverfluit was voor mij dus een enorme barrière om te overwinnen. Ik wil gerust discussiëren met iedereen over het schlagergenre en de plaats die het in de muziekindustrie heeft, maar wat je niet kan ontkennen, is dat elke zanger die aan de wedstrijd deelnam wel degelijk kon zingen. Hoe later op de avond, hoe dieper de moed in mijn schoenen kwam te staan... Ik kende mijn tekst niet, ik kon niet zingen, ik had geen podiumact .... ik had gewoon niets. Het werd een fiasco. Ik vond de jury nog heel mild en eerlijk gezegd denk ik dat ze me wat gespaard hebben maar één ding is zeker: schlagerzanger worden is en blijft de grootste grens die ik ooit heb overschreden !
