Vitalina has been a district police officer for many years and is accustomed to devoting far more energy and time to her job than to her own family. But the day after their thirtieth wedding anniversary, her husband, scientist and professor Anatoliy Rozanov, unexpectedly decides to leave her for his eighteen-year-old secretary, Sveta, who is also expecting his child. Anatoliy explains his unseemly act as revenge. He took paternity tests and discovered that only two of their three adult children are truly his. This means his wife was the one who started cheating on him first. Vitalina decides to prove his innocence and secretly collect DNA from the children-Natalya, Mikhail, and Elena-for retesting. Vitalina moves into each of their homes in turn, diligently setting about resolving their marital problems.
