Terwijl Nederland wanhopig op zoek is naar zijn wortels en zijn bronnen, worden hele woonwijken tegen de vlakte gegooid en grondig geherstructureerd. Binnen enkele decennia zal iedere tastbare herinnering aan hoe het in die wijken vroeger was, zijn weggevaagd. Vooral de woningbouw uit de periode van de wederopbouw moet het ontgelden. De slopers van nu waren de bouwers van toen: de woningcorporaties. Honderd jaar geleden opgericht om de armen te huisvesten, staan zij nu als verzelfstandigde marktpartij vooraan bij wat zij als hun nieuwe historische missie beschouwen: Nederland bouwrijp te maken voor de woonwensen van de toekomst.
