Nog steeds bouwt Israël in onverminderd tempo door aan het ‘veiligheidshek’ dat ervoor moet zorgen dat Palestijnse zelfmoordcommando’s niet meer zo makkelijk het land kunnen binnendringen. Dat die afscheiding op fel verzet stuit bij de Palestijnen lijkt vanzelfsprekend. Minder bekend is dat ook aan Israëlische kant de bouw van de muur met toenemende zorg en schaamte wordt gadegeslagen. Tegenlicht vroeg de Israëlisch-Nederlandse regisseur Benny Brunner een film te maken over dit onderwerp. Brunner staat bekend als een felle tegenstander van Israëls toenemend nationalistisch en militaristisch optreden. Tijdens zijn reis langs de afscheiding laat hij tegenstanders van de muur en de achterliggende ideologie aan het woord. Israëlische tegenstanders. Zij delen Brunners’ zorg over het morele verval binnen de huidige Isralische politiek. In de uiteindelijke hoop dat het Midden Oosten zich ooit zal bevrijden uit de spiraal van toenemende krankzinnigheid.
