Lara is still looking for her niece Magda, who the police declared dead. At the same time, she has become a detective of the inexplicable in the forests. She is approached by Jochen Rust, whose daughter Merle has disappeared since the flood in the Ahr valley. While his wife Verena wants to declare her dead, he is sure that Merle is alive and asks Lara for help. Despite all her sympathy, she is initially overwhelmed. But then Merle appears out of nowhere, standing dripping wet in her parents' garden. The girl is a different person. She speaks loving words, but moves through her former home as if remotely controlled. Lara's adopted sister Greta also seems to be interwoven with the mysterious events surrounding the forests.
