A bullying husband allows his brain to be kept alive after his demise to irritate his wife, but she may have the last laugh.

At the importing firm of Ventry and Bayle, John Ventry has apparently committed suicide. Mr. Bayle recalls in flashbacks how auditors found that John Ventry has been guilty of embezzling from the firm's bank accounts. But Mr. Bayle is about to learn that partnerships are not so easily dissolved.

The day after Louise wishes her overbearing sister Harriet dead, Harriet falls off the cliff behind their home and dies. Louise is delighted with her new freedom to date her neighbor Paul, but her sanity cracks when she finds evidence that Harriet's ghost has paid her a visit.

The commanding officer of an underground military bunker must decide whether to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike after all communications with the outside world suddenly cease, even though he doesn't know if the country has actually been attacked.
