Сергей и Катя встречаются на кладбище у могилы Вали, в связи с годовщиной ее смерти. Общаются на личные темы, из которых Сергей узнает, что у Кати умер отец после потери старшей дочери. Также в своей беседе затрагивают личную жизнь: Сергей в разводе, а Катя в гражданском браке, в который съехались с Костей пару недель назад.

Катя выступает категорически против сделки с Махно из-за его черного пятна в биографии. Сергей пытается уговорить ее, объясняя, что это верный шанс выйти на возможного серийника, но она неприступна. Тогда Сергея посещает другая идея - устраивает допрос мужика, в чьем доме скрывался Махно. Тот уверяет, что, якобы, не знал о его «послужном списке». Сергей просит сказать ему имя друга Махно, который откинулся 5 лет назад, тогда обещает снять часть обвинений.
