Convict Dirk De Vulder, a rapist-murderer Tom arrested, escapes during treatment for knife-wounds in hospital, murdering both police guards. His cell-mate of six years, murderer Benny Stassyns, claims he was unpopular but feared beyond bullying as a former para-commando. Tom blames himself for not having killed Dirk instead of taking him prisoner. Two weeks earlier, notary Bruno Cassiman transferred 20,000 Euro to Stassyns' account for an anonymous client, allegedly from an inheritance.
