Abarca la vida cotidiana de un grupo de niños estudiantes de una escuela primaria mexicana ("Escuela Mundial") y las relaciones de estos últimos con su profesora, La maestra Ximena (Gabriela Rivero). En la novela, se tocan varios temas acerca de la vida, además de resaltar valores como el amor, la confianza y la amistad. Uno de los temas expuestos en la novela es de las diferencias entre las clases altas y bajas de la sociedad mexicana - especialmente como se ve en una relación romántica entre Cirilo, un niño negro pobre (interpretado por Pedro Javier Vivero), y una niña rica malcriada, María Joaquina Villaseñor (interpretado por Ludwika Paleta). También se caracteriza por representar cada una de las personalidades infantiles, entre ellas resaltan el bromista, la traviesa, la romántica, el niño bueno, la niña sensible, el estudioso, el desordenado, la presumida, la gringa, el oriental, etc.
