Beauty and the Beast
New faces are at Crane Poole & Schmidt. Katie Lloyd joins the firm straight from law school and her first case has her defendant accused of rape and murder; the assistant D.A. for the case is Brad Chase. Carl Sack takes over the litigation department from Paul Lewiston and he is less than impressed with the attorneys. Clarence defends Clarice entering a singing contest when Carl Sack demands he drop from the competition.

The Innocent Man
Joseph's trial starts and Alan acts as an advisor to Katie and Jerry. Shirley hires Lorraine, much to Alan's consternation, as a replacement litigator while Denise is on leave. Denny finds out there may be something between Shirley and Carl.

The Chicken and the Leg
Carl and Denny have a bet on whether or not Carl can win a case where his defendant is accused of cock fighting. Alan represents a teenager suing her school for its abstinence-only sex education program after she contracts HIV. Katie and Jerry help the widow of the lawyer they replaced on the Joseph Washington case sue her husband's therapist for making his metal state worse not better.

Do Tell
Whitney Rome invades Crane Poole and Schmidt demanding Carl give her a case; he gives her a custody case with Miguel Obisbo who is fighting his wife over their son's interest in bull fighting. An old friend of Denny's, and a four-star Army general wants to sue the military on its don't-ask-don't-tell policy after he is discharged for coming out as gay. Alan's continued issues regarding Lorraine manifest as a bout of word salad.

Hope and Gory
Alan is confronted by a woman who wants to kill the man who murdered her daughter and was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. She would like Alan to get her off in a similar fashion. Katie and Jerry try to help Joseph Washington deal with the residents of a small town he's moved to since his acquittal.

The Object of My Affection
Denny decides he needs to fire an associate because she is fat. Jerry takes a case for a woman who is an objectophile and is in love a utility box. Alan and Whitney proceed with Patrice Kelly's trial.

Attack of the Xenophobes
Whitney and Katie defend a police officer involved in a shooting; the prosecution's case is based mostly on the results of a MRI of the officer's emotions. Jerry frets over the possibility of a third date with Leigh. Clarence and Carl sue YouTube after an embarrassing video of Clarice surfaces.

Oral Contracts
Denny is arrested for solicitation of gay sex in a courthouse restroom. Katie has suspicions about Lorraine's past and shares her concerns with Whitney. Shirley defends an old friend who is fired from his position as a "shock-jock" when he makes political statements offensive to baby boomers.

No Brains Left Behind
Shirley's granddaughter needs help after she is expelled from her high school for shredding standardized tests. Denny and Alan try to sue the National Guard after a flood destroyed Denny's favorite pizza restaurant. Lorraine decides to tell Shirley and Carl the truth about her past.

Green Christmas
Clarence comes to Alan for help when his house is foreclosed on due to balloon payments and the housing bubble. Carl and Katie represent Denny when the firm is sued by a long-time client who says Denny committed fraud by stating the firm was a green company. Jerry deals with being dumped by Leigh.

Mad About You
Denny is determined to handle a murder trial by himself. Jerry and Katie help a woman sue her husband's divorce lawyer claiming the lawyer's billboards encouraged her husband to leave her.

Roe v. Wade: The Musical
Alan and Shirley take opposite sides on the father's rights on abortion when Missy Tiggs comes to Shirley to prevent a man, whose sperm she stole, from demanding she terminate the pregnancy. Jerry represents Leigh when Leigh is fired from her teaching position after hugging a student.

Glow in the Dark
Shirley's friend Andrea comes to the firm wanting to sue to keep a nuclear power plant out of her town; she also upends things with Denny and Alan. Carl is jealous and ends his relationship with Shirley after he sees her in a restaurant with an old flame. Katie confronts Jerry about multiple threats Leigh has made against her.

Rescue Me
Carl again talks to Shirley about the state of the litigation department when their current caseload includes a woman who wants to sue a company for losing her mother's ashes instead of turning those ashes into a diamond. A woman who wants to sue her pastor for a bad breakup and a mother suing her daughter's high school after the daughter dies in a car accident after she fell asleep at the wheel. Oh, and Denny and Alan start their testing to join the Coast Guard Reserves.

Tabloid Nation
Alan represents a man whose daughter was murdered after she was ambushed on a tabloid television program; opposing counsel is Alan's nemesis, Melvin Palmer. Shirley defends an old boyfriend who is arrested for killing seals in the harbor in order to eat.

The Mighty Rogues
Shirley, Denny and Alan all comes to terms with end-of-life decisions when Shirley goes to court to force a hospital to put her father on a morphine drip. Carl helps the wealthy of Nantucket gain access to their own nuclear bomb. Jerry is sued by a woman who claims he drugged her.

The Court Supreme
Alan is given the chance to argue a case before the US Supreme Court. The catch? He must defend a man convicted of raping a child, and Denny wants to come along. Jerry finds out Dana is actually a high-priced call girl working for Lorraine.

Indecent Proposals
Carl and Denny help a female cattle rancher sue the FDA to prevent cloned meat from entering the market. Denny falls in love with her after one day and proposes marriage. Alan helps Shirley sue her nephew when she learns he won't follow primary results for his constituency when he votes at the Democratic National Convention.

The Gods Must Be Crazy
Jerry and Katie try to make prostitution legal after Dana is arrested and offered a deal to turn in Lorraine. Shirley and Carl agree to sue the Catholic Church on behalf of Renee Winger who is claiming gender discrimination because she cannot be made a priest. Denny is considered for the Republican Presidential nomination.

Patriot Acts
Denny and Alan's friendship is tested when Judge Harvey Cooper comes to Alan to help the township of Concorde secede. Alan sees the case as valid dissent while Denny thinks the whole thing in anti-American.
