An operation by Vera's team and colleagues from the drug investigation team fails: the intermediary dies trying to convict a wholesaler. In addition, a young police officer from the MEK is shot and falls into a coma. Together with the public prosecutor, it is decided to pursue the case further. That's why Vera Lanz now has to work even more closely with the informant from the drug investigation team, Mario Fechtner. Fechtner is a charismatic and attractive man who is always on the verge of "the wrong side" and who is not easy to trust. Vera begins to appreciate the colleague for his self-sacrificing way of working, which is so similar to hers. But what went wrong during the mission? This question also concerns the internal investigator Dominik Schneider.
He warns Vera that Mario could be the cardsharp and asks her to report to him. Vera stands between these two interesting men and faces a difficult moral choice. On top of that, she has to solve a case in completely new territory.

Bookish

London, 1946 is the dynamic, dangerous and chaotic setting for this stylish new detective drama, with the eccentric Gabriel Book at the very heart of the story: a self-appointed consultant detective to the local police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide him with all the knowledge he needs.

Book has gathered around him a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. His wife Trottie runs the wallpaper shop next door. She's a charismatic adventuress whom Book loves deeply but not physically, for they are in a 'lavender' marriage to help conceal Book's sexual orientation in a time when it was illegal to be gay.

Bookish marries post-war nostalgia with the reckless and life-affirming atmosphere of the times, creating a fast-paced and stylish detective drama.
