Season 38
2009 was Emmerdale's 38th year. At the start of the year the producer Anita Turner and executive producer Keith Richardson were both still in charge of the programme, though Gavin Blyth and Steve Frost took over each respective roles from March onwards.
Major storylines included Debbie Dingle and Jasmine Thomas being sent to prison for their parts in Shane Doyle's death, Sally Spode's stalking of Ashley Thomas, Jack Sugden's offscreen death in Spain, the returns of Cain Dingle and Charity Tate and the arrival of three new families - the Wyldes, the Bartons and the Sharmas.

Donna thinks Ross might become a suspect for the police. Marlon stumbles across the couple. Val doesn't like Daz and Victoria being together.

Friday 2nd January
Marlon tells the police about Shane's blackmailing. Val tells Daz to stay away from Victoria. Lily and Edna try to make up.

Monday 5th January
When Ross returns to the village and attacks Marlon, he makes a shocking discovery. Jimmy struggles with organizing the funeral.

Diane returns to the village with Annie for Jack's funeral. Victoria seeks reassurances from Annie that Jack hadn't forgotten about her and gets some peace of mind when Annie begins reminiscing. Alan agrees to help organise the service. Annie is alarmed to hear that Andy is having doubts about whether to attend, but Daz says he'll make sure that he's there.

Victoria prepares herself for Jack's funeral and tells an upset Daz that she's planning to move to Spain with Annie. Daz begs Victoria to change her mind and almost admits his feelings for her, but stops himself just in time as the hearse arrives to take them to the funeral. Meanwhile, Robert is watching from a distance.
