A few years later, newspaper owner Lord Altrincham was attacked for daring to publish criticisms of the Queen, but by the mid-1970s Princess Margaret's hedonistic lifestyle was the subject of increasing press attention. But that was only the beginning. In the 1990s, the press has a field day over the breakdown of Charles and Diana's marriage, feeding on royal scandals.
