Jamie's £1 Wonders & Money-Saving Meals - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Episode 1
Jamie Oliver presents budget-beating recipes and tips for delicious food at low prices, beginning with an Indian-inspired dosa recipe that uses cheap vegetables and batch-cooked batter. He then cooks a family-sized DIY takeaway of crispy chicken in garlic breadcrumbs with sweet potato wedges, slaw and corn cobs and chocolate orange shortbreads that can be cooked in an air fryer from frozen.

Episode 2
Jamie Oliver shares a £1 spaghetti frittata inspired by Italian grandmothers, and rustles up pork pies in an air fryer, using mince, homemade flaky pastry and a jar of piccalilli. He also cooks a budget-busting batch of butternut squash dal with low-cost lentils and homemade cheese, a DIY takeaway chicken shish kebab, and mint choc chip whoopie pies.

Episode 3
Jamie Oliver reveals a way to use up leftovers and keep costs down with easy stuffed dumplings, and rattles out a homemade budget-friendly cheat's fish and chips followed by a blondie cake. Jamie also uses pre-made pastry, tinned fruit and an upgrade to everyday ice cream to cook up pineapple tarte tatin in his air fryer.

Episode 4
This time, Jamie cooks a delicious mushroom soup using up discounted veg that's on the turn, followed by a low-cost, easy cheesy air-fryer soda bread that a family can feast on for under a fiver. He shows us how useful a bit of planning can be, making ingredients stretch over two meals by serving up a stunning ham hock and parsley sauce, then turning the leftovers into a second meal later in the week: his teardrop gnocchi, a delicious win for your wallet. Jamie also goes up against the takeaway with his epic air-fryer chicken burger, using one of the cheapest cuts of meat and a clever hack with a spicy paste, keeping costs down and flavour stacked up! He tops it all off by taking a trip down memory lane, making nostalgic iced buns with low-cost dough and frozen berries for the best icing.

Episode 5
This time, Jamie shows us how to make our budget stretch further by using the store cupboard, as he creates a no-cook pasta sauce made from jarred olives. He puts a money-saving spin on an Italian-inspired peperonata stew, using frozen sweet roasted peppers with coddled eggs: perfect for a bargain breakfast, brunch or dinner. He then shows us how to knock out a wallet-friendly take on the classic roast chicken dinner, using thighs, drumsticks, leeks and tins of beans. He also takes on the takeaway and creates deliciously clever kebabs and homemade flatbreads at a fraction of the price of ordering in. And, using everyday ingredients and his air fryer, his stuffed apples with custard are so quick and simple to knock together, and at under £1 a head they make the perfect last-minute pud.

Episode 6
This time, Jamie makes a roast feta and tomato pasta using up odds and ends of pasta and shows us a money-saving method for an easy tomato sauce rustled up in the air fryer. He creates a sweet treat - for us and our wallets - with his beautiful rolled carrot cake, using a few leftover carrots for a decadent dessert. Heroing one of the most affordable cuts of meat, Jamie's easy chicken curry is his own take on a family favourite for a fraction of the price. His punchy Welsh rarebit transforms leftover cheese into an epic cheese on toast upgrade, and for under a pound a portion it's a winner for your wallet too. Finally, Jamie creates a Chinese-inspired feast using money-saving frozen fish and a handful of cupboard spices, all wrapped up in great value dough for a low cost, deliciously easy feast.
