Rejecting the Atenism established by his father, Akhenaten, he reestablished the old religion, restoring the old Egyptian gods headed by Amun. He rebuilt ancient Egypt's religion completely, reestablishing Karnac with its temples, priests, and religious rites. It was a complete religious counter-revolution. Excavations include tombs at the Dra' Abu El-Naga necropolis near Luxor and a temple near Hermopolis Magna.
