Sight Unseen - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Tess
Diagnosed with Leber's Neuropathy, homicide detective Tess Avery quits the police force after nearly getting her partner, Jake Campbell, killed. Unwilling to accept help, or even admit her new reality, Tess turns to an assistive app to help navigate the world around her while still "passing" as sighted. Through the EyesUP app, Tess finds an unorthodox partner in Sunny Patel, an overly enthusiastic seeing eye guide working from her home in New York City who helps Tess investigate the brutal abduction of a young mother who may still be alive. But Sunny has a secret: she's an agoraphobe who only leaves her apartment through the eyes of her clients, and is hiding a violent event in her own past

Sunny
When the hit and run victim from one of Tess' former cases awakes from a coma, Sunny encourages Tess to track down new leads even though she's no longer on the force. Tess' ex-partner Jake Campbell inherits Tess' case files along with a new partner, Leo Li, who is quick to dismiss the case as a dead end. As Tess makes progress, she discovers the incident is connected to a notorious unsolved murder. Meanwhile, Tess' best friend Matt encourages Tess to open up about her vision loss to Jake. Sunny, desperate to help Tess find leads, reveals her surprising financial situation and a dilemma on her doorstep – the very doorstep of her apartment that she is terrified to cross.

Jake
When Tess inserts herself into Jake's investigation to find the identity of a dead "John Doe," she confronts conflicting emotions – fearing for her brother Lucas' life, while driven to do the thing she loves most: solve the case. Tess continues to resist the traditional sight impaired training offered by her vision loss consultant, Mia, preferring to rely on Sunny's remote guidance – until an unexpected crisis and a nudge from Matt forces her to reconsider. Meanwhile, Sunny is served divorce papers after failing to meet her husband for a date, leaving her concierge, Kye, as her only real-life contact with the outside world.

Mia
Jake encourages Tess to talk to Superintendent Bennett about getting her old job back, but her hopes are cut short by his disappointing offer to join the Metro PD in a desk role. Frustrated, Tess takes on an unsolved murder of a woman killed in her delivery van, allowing her to bring justice to an overlooked victim while proving her old boss wrong. Tess accepts a lesson in cane navigation from Mia, but Sunny is never far from her ear – except when she gets cut off, just as Tess goes on a date with a potential killer.

Matt
With Tess now back on duty as a police consultant, and Sunny as her under the radar tech partner, a close to home murder of one of Matt's colleagues challenges the duo on their first ‘on the books' case in the pool where Tess swims. As they investigate the mystery surrounding the swim coach's death, and the dynamics of her Olympic-level swim team, Tess and Sunny discover they were on opposite ends of the popularity scale in school. Mia offers her unexpected skills to the case and a shaken Matt sees a new side of Tess. Meanwhile, Sunny is desperate for help with a DIY job gone awry and lets her concierge, Kye, into her apartment, reawakening past trauma.

Lucas
Tess is quick to question Lucas' motive when he claims to need a place to crash in the middle of the night, only to later unearth a bombshell with Jake at a crime scene that suggests her brother may be implicated in the murder of a famous painter. Torn between her loyalty to the Homicide Division and the need to protect the only family she has left, Tess says nothing to Jake, instead turning to Sunny to watch over Lucas via a nanny cam while she attempts to solve the case. Meanwhile, Sunny invites Kye into her home to help with her DIY renovation, but he stumbles onto a piece of her hidden past, breaking her fragile trust.

Leo
Tess and Jake investigate the shooting of a trucker when the Vice Squad shows up, demanding Metro PD cut their main suspect loose before they compromise an ongoing investigation. When the same suspect is found dead in the interrogation room, both squads are thrown under suspicion and the station is put into lockdown, turning up the heat on Tess and Jake's investigation. The stakes spiral when Jake's life is put into peril and Tess is cut off when the power goes out in Sunny's building. Meanwhile, Kye and Sunny's relationship deepens until Sunny overhears a suspicious phone call.

Fluffed
Tess and Sunny explore themes of hidden identity as they investigate the murder of a realtor's assistant in a glossy mansion he was preparing to sell, only to discover that neither the realtor, nor the buyers he was prepping the mansion for, are who they seem to be. As the investigation goes on, Tess discovers Sunny might have secrets of her own. Meanwhile, Sunny confronts Kye after catching him eavesdropping.

Burn Notice
The sensational disappearance of two influencers who travel the country posting their van life adventures has Tess and Matt tracing their trail on an epic road trip – with Sunny riding shotgun through the car speakers. Unbeknownst to Sunny, Tess leverages the case to lower Sunny's guard and reveal more about her past. Jake is quickly brought on the case when the three locate the burned-out van at the bottom of a wooded ravine, creating complications on the personal front. Returning to the college, Matt enlists Mia's help using her pull with the low vision community to dig into Sunny's employment at EyesUp, confirming Tess' worst fears.

Razor's Edge
Tess and Sunny's relationship is put to the ultimate test when Tess reveals she knows who Sunny really is and why she needs to hide from the outside world. To prove Tess wrong, Sunny must face her deepest fear and relive the crime that sent her into hiding. On the verge of losing Tess' trust, Sunny guides her through the abandoned crime scene, reliving the night that changed her life in an emotionally charged flashback – with Tess as a witness and interrogator. Sunny's story leads Tess to evidence that bring her onside. But, in doing so, they draw the attention of a greater foe.
