The Nest - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Episode 1
Starts with an entertaining setup of the series and an introduction of the three families. The first change of routine Move Out! (adult children are placed in a shared accommodation) is announced within the first 15 minutes. This quickly showed both viewers and our participants that they were in something very different to a traditional ob-doc

Episode 2
Move Out! moves into its second week. There's some initial tension in the Over 25s share house surrounding the household chores. The Under 25s are relishing the experience of living away from home and are already indicating that this experience may be life-changing. The parents are starting to realise that they enjoy the freedom of not having their child(ren) around. The Troches are clearly rediscovering their relationship. All of the young adults find it difficult to entirely break from the parental home - returning to do laundry etc.

Episode 3
Move Out! is in its third week. The young adults have settled into their new routines and have shown that they are more than capable of independent life. The parents are home from their weekend away, and while their houses are quieter, they realise that life 'after the kids' is something to look forward to. Personal storylines are emerging, it's becoming apparent that the Wilkinson's are struggling financially and may not be able to hold onto their large family home.

Episode 4
Role Reversal continues. The Wilkinsons claim that everyone contributes to the running of the household, so why are the parents finding it so difficult to allow the children to take on their normal roles. At the Currans, Jeremy is balancing his busy social life with his new tasks. His parents are pleased, but don't think it will result in a long-term change to their household. The Currans are also expressing their fear that Jeremy is jeopardising his personal growth by staying at home, but they won't force him to leave.

Episode 5
The changes of routine have ended and the series enters a new phase, in which The Nest Experts work with the families to help them achieve their stated future goals. This involves changes to long-term behaviours, accepting the inevitability of change, or moving on from very comfortable routines.

Episode 6
Taking part in The Nest experiment has had a profound impact on the three families. In the first part of the episode they all make life-changing decisions. At a family meeting the Wilkinsons decide that their connection to their home cannot be broken, despite the financial repercussions. It's doubtful that they'll be able to hang on long-term with Aaron leaving for an overseas trip, Tara declaring that The Nest experience has fuelled a desire to move out, and Scott signing a development deal for his invention. Jeremy Curran has responded to the Experts encouragement to move out, but he is unable to find anywhere suitable. The Experts have suggested that a 'living together' contract is a solution to the Troche's disagreements about how Anielka can continue living with her parents. In a dramatic moment, they sign the agreement.
