Or a simple fantasy intended to discredit a chef? Just as Julia and Novak solve this investigation, their daughter Emma bursts into the Homicide unit. Angry, she claims to be sent by a friend of Julia's who told her everything about her past, and she doesn't want her biological parents involved in her life. Julia is stunned and asks for the identity of this friend, who turns out to be Malherbe. After a wave of panic, Julia and Novak immediately place Emma under police protection.
