A young investigator, Seva Pashin, following a new duty station, suddenly finds himself in the town of Ensk... a suspect in a murder. The father, Major General Evgeny Alexandrovich, is furious: he gives his son two days to sort everything out. It's an impossible task, but for Seva's luck, there is a strange character in the local police department — crime photographer Grigory Malinin, nicknamed Pykha. Together, they quickly find the real culprit. Seva, impressed by the abilities of his new acquaintance, asks his father to help him stay in Ensk. So he becomes the senior investigator of the Ensky district police department, and Pykha becomes his assistant. Malinin's associative method, based on inspiration, alcohol and amorous adventures, contradicts the principles of Pashin Jr.'s life: different characters and age differences sometimes generate conflicts, but in general, the characters complement each other perfectly and together begin to uncover the most complicated cases.
